EC forms 33-member committee to file foreign observers doc

The Election Commission (EC) has constituted a 33-member committee to prepare a comprehensive documentation of the activities of foreign observers who monitored the recently concluded 13th Parliamentary Election.

It marks the first time since independence that the constitutional body has undertaken such an initiative.
The committee comprises officials from the EC and the Ministry of Information.

Senior Assistant Secretary Asma Dilara Jannat has been appointed convener, while Deputy Director of the Department of Films and Publications, Mamun Or Rashid, will serve as member secretary.

Deputy Chief Information Officer Mohammad Fakhrul Islam of the Department of Information and other officials from relevant departments have also been included.

The information was disclosed in an office order signed on Wednesday by the EC’s Director of Public Relations, Md Ruhul Amin Mallik.

According to the order, 57 foreign observers from various countries participated in monitoring the referendum and the 13th National Parliamentary Election held on 12 February at the invitation of the Commission.

The committee has been tasked with preserving photographs, records and relevant information relating to their reception, accommodation, polling station visits and other official engagements.

The documentation will be compiled in book form for future reference. The committee has also been assigned responsibility for collecting evaluation reports submitted by the observers, preparing written accounts of various activities, compiling photographs and finalising the publication.

Officials said the committee includes representatives from the EC Secretariat as well as the Department of Information, the Department of Films and Publications and the Mass Communication Department.
