City Desk :

Md. Abdus Salam Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) administrator, has announced four priority programmes aimed at transforming Dhaka into a modern “green city and clean city.”

He made the remarks on Wednesday during separate meetings with senior officials of the corporation and the waste management department at Nagar Bhaban. Describing the City Corporation as a service-oriented institution, Abdus Salam said its primary responsibility is to serve the people.

“Rewards will be given for good performance, while strict action will be taken against negligence,” he said, adding that all citizen services under DSCC will remain fully operational and uninterrupted.

Four priority programs were set in the meeting to transform Dhaka into a livable and clean city. They are – tree plantation and extensive greening, restoration and excavation of canal flow, modern waste management and effective mosquito control.

It has been decided to formulate a complete action plan to implement these programs within a week and submit it to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Recently, several wards of DSCC have been identified as ‘risky’ due to increasing mosquito infestation. It was decided to form a monitoring team comprising senior officials to ensure 100per cent mosquito eradication activities.

In addition, emphasis has been placed on raising public awareness by involving local civil society.
