4 killed in Narail clash over supremacy

At least four people were killed in a violent clash between two rival groups over local supremacy in Narail.
The incident took place at dawn in Borkula village under Narail Sadar upazila in the wee hours of Monday.
Mohammad Oli Mia, officer-in-charge (OC) of Narail Sadar Police Station, confirmed the fatalities.

The deceased were identified as Khalil, 60, Tahajjat, 30, Osi, 30, and Ferdous, 40, all residents of the same locality. Further details about the victims were not immediately available.

Police officials said all four victims were residents of the same area, although detailed background information could not be immediately confirmed.

The supporters of the two groups attacked each other with homemade weapons around 5:30 am, leaving Rahman Khalil, Tahajjud and Ferdous dead on the spot.

According to local sources, there had been a long-standing dispute between former UP chairman Khayer and the Khalil group over dominance in the area. Around 5:30 am on Monday, both sides became involved in a clash armed with local weapons. Several casualties occurred on the spot in Barakula village, which turned into a battlefield.

Osikur Fakir, injured from the opposing group, died after being admitted to Narail Sadar Hospital. Following the incident, 5-6 houses were set on fire and looted.

Osibur Mia was taken to Narail District Hospital in critical condition where he died.
According to local sources and police, a group allegedly led by former chairman of Singasholpur Union, Khayer Molla, opened fire in the area, creating panic among residents. In retaliation, members of the rival faction reportedly captured Khalil Sheikh, his son Tahajjat, and Ferdous Sheikh, and hacked them indiscriminately.

Three victims died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries after being taken to Narail Sadar Hospital.

Police officials said all four victims were residents of the same area, although detailed background information could not be immediately confirmed.

According to police, the clash broke out between the two groups over establishing supremacy in the locality. Three individuals were killed on the spot during the confrontation. Another sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Narail Sadar Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.

Narail Police Super Al Mamun Sikder said additional police have been deployed at the spot to prevent fresh violence in the area. A tense situation currently prevails throughout the village.

He further said those involved in the killings will be swiftly arrested and brought under the law. Multiple police teams are working on this matter.

Police and army personnel were deployed to the scene following the incident. Law enforcement agencies said efforts are underway to bring the situation under control and maintain order in the area.
