‘BNP to decide PM’s official residence’

Staff Reporter :

Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman said on Monday that the official residence of the prime minister will be determined in consultation with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, Adilur said the decision on the prime minister’s residence would be taken after discussions with the BNP and would be arranged according to their preference.
“It will be done the way they want,” he said.

He added that 37 houses have so far been prepared for ministers and state ministers. These residences are located across the capital, including Minto Road, Hare Road, Dhanmondi and Gulshan.

However, the adviser noted that no final decision has yet been made regarding which specific residence will be designated for the prime minister.

“Wherever the prime minister prefers, arrangements will be made accordingly,” he said.

Referring to the government’s assumption of office through a mass uprising, Adilur said the administration has spent the past 18 months working in the public interest.

He said efforts were made to steer the country in a new direction after what he described as 15 and a half years of “fascist rule,” while maintaining accountability to the people.

The adviser also said reform initiatives have been undertaken in several sectors. While some reforms remain incomplete, he expressed hope that those processes would be concluded in due course.
