BNP to hold parliamentary party meeting after oath

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which emerged victorious in the 13th parliamentary election, has convened a meeting of its parliamentary party following the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected Members of Parliament.

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed disclosed the information on Monday. He said the meeting will be held at 11:30am on Tuesday at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban after the swearing-in ceremony.

According to Salahuddin Ahmed, the parliamentary party meeting will elect the leader of the House. As the head of the majority party, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to become Prime Minister.

The 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and a referendum were held on Thursday, February 12. On Friday night, the Election Commission published the gazette notification for 297 winners out of 299 parliamentary seats.

A total of 297 newly elected lawmakers are scheduled to take oath at 10:00am on Tuesday. The oath will be administered by Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin.

Following the swearing-in of MPs, members of the new cabinet are set to take oath in the afternoon at the South Plaza of the parliament complex.
