Admin lacks price hike monitoring marking Ramadan
Kaliganj (Gazipur) Correspondent :
Only a few days are left for the holy Ramadan to begin. Before the start of Ramadan, the prices of daily necessities have become uncontrollable in various markets of Kaliganj. The prices of commodities are going beyond the buyers’ means.
A kind of invisible heat has been created in the market before Ramadan arrives. A scene of crying has been observed among buyers and sellers before the start of Ramadan. Buyers say that the lack of supervision by the local administration is one of the reasons for this.
When talking to buyers who visited several markets in the upazila, they said that it is not possible to control the prices of commodities in the market due to the lack of proper supervision and monitoring. The question is why is the scene the same every year during Ramadan?
Ordinary buyers are suffering due to the lack of control over the prices of commodities during Ramadan. Their demand to the new government is that the first thing to do after the shops should be to break the market syndicate by taking visible steps to control the prices of commodities.
In several markets including Kaliganj Bazar, Jamalpur Basair Bazar, Nagri Bazar, Aorakhali and Narun Bazar in the upazila, the market prices of several products including dates, watermelons, cucumbers and lemons are seen skyrocketing.
Ordinary buyers say that all types of products will be within the reach of the public if the syndicate of some unscrupulous traders is closed. Locals believe that if the procurement and supply of all types of food grains is normal, the prices of products will be within the purchasing power of the public.
When asked about this, Upazila Executive Officer ATM Kamrul Islam said on his mobile phone that the administration has been trying its best to control the market since before Ramadan. The issue of food supply and storage is under surveillance. However, the mobile court operation and monitoring will start soon to control the market prices.
