Suicide over voting dispute in Kalkini

Madaripur Correspondent:

In Kalkini, Madaripur, a Saudi expatriate’s wife, 26-year-old Sanjida, committed suicide following a dispute over voting. The incident occurred on Thursday night. Sanjida was the wife of Saudi expatriate Noyon Sikder of Ward No. 6, Ramjanpur Union, Kalkini, and daughter of Sirajul Islam from Narayanganj.

According to police and family sources, on Thursday, her husband Noyon forbade her from going to the polling center to vote in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Defying her husband, Sanjida went to vote.

Later, around 7:00 pm, during an argument over the issue via video call with her husband, she hanged herself while still on the call.

At the time, she was alone at home with her two-year-old son. Her family later rushed her to the nearby Gouranadi Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared her dead.

OC of Kalkini Police Station, Zahirul Alam, said that the police had received reports of the incident, but no written complaint has been filed yet.
