Clash in Joypurhat over alleged vote buying
Joypurhat Correspondent :
A clash erupted in Joypurhat between BNP activists and supporters of independent candidate Sabekun Nahar Shikha during the distribution of money allegedly intended for vote-buying. As a result, nine people from both sides were injured. The injured were admitted to the Joypurhat 250-bed General Hospital.
According to police and eyewitness sources, independent candidate Sabekun Nahar Shikha, along with her supporters, went to the Shantinnagar area of Joypurhat town in several vehicles at around 5:30 pm on Wednesday to meet voters.
When BNP activists and supporters learned about the incident, they arrived at the scene, leading to a violent clash between the two groups.
In the incident, three BNP activists and six supporters of the independent candidate were injured. All of them were taken to the Joypurhat General Hospital for treatment.
The injured BNP activists alleged that Sabekun Nahar Shikha brought hired supporters in several vehicles to the Government College polling center area to buy votes in exchange for money.
Local people protested after receiving the information and informed BNP workers. When BNP activists tried to stop the activity, the confrontation escalated into a clash.
On the other hand, independent candidate Sabekun Nahar Shikha claimed that they were simply going to inspect the Joypurhat Degree College polling center when BNP leaders and activists launched a sudden attack on them.
