Two-thirds of Khulna’s polling centres marked ‘high-risk’

Law enforcement agencies have identified 566 out of 840 polling centres across six parliamentary constituencies in Khulna as “high-risk” ahead of the upcoming national election.

The list was finalized following field-level assessments conducted prior to the announcement of the election schedule.

Officials said CCTV cameras have already been installed in most of the identified centres, while additional police personnel will be deployed starting a day before the polls. Officers stationed at vulnerable and highly sensitive centres will be equipped with body cameras for real-time monitoring.

Data analysis shows Khulna-6 as the most vulnerable constituency, with 83.22 percent of its polling centres marked as risky. In contrast, Khulna-3 recorded the lowest proportion, with 77 out of 155 centresaround 49.67 percentclassified as important or sensitive.

In constituency-wise breakdown, 76 out of 115 centres in Khulna-1, 105 of 157 in Khulna-2, 95 of 144 in Khulna-4, and 83 of 150 in Khulna-5 have been listed as important.

Several educational institutions in the metropolitan area, including Khulna Collegiate School, KDA Model Government Primary School, Lions School and College, and Khulna Government Women’s College, are among the identified centres.

KMP Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan said three Policemen and 13 Ansar members will be deployed at each regular centre. The number will increase to four Policemen including officers at vulnerable centres and five, including an officer, at highly sensitive ones. Mobile patrols and striking reserve teams will remain on standby.

District Returning Officer ASM Jamshed Khondker said CCTV cameras will be operational in around 558 centres, while body cameras will be used in nearly 300 highly important centres, with live monitoring from police headquarters. Around 1,200 army personnel will also assist civil authorities in maintaining law and order.
Authorities expressed optimism that the coordinated deployment of law enforcement agencies would ensure a peaceful polling environment.
