Bhola Correspondent :

Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Bir Bikrom), BNP parliamentary candidate for Bhola-3 and a member of the party’s Standing Committee, said that in July-August 2024, during a popular uprising, police, RAB, and other forces brutally killed around 1,500 people. He added that people from Lalmohan were also killed on the streets of Dhaka. Among them were 12 individuals from Lalmohan, none of whom were students; all were workers, rickshaw pullers, van drivers, and professionals from various occupations.

“We were under the grip of a secret government for 16 years. We want to build a Bangladesh free from drugs, injustice, and corruption. Together, we aim to create a prosperous, democratic, and happy Bangladesh,” he said.
He made these remarks on Thursday afternoon as the chief guest at an election rally held at the playground of Dwipshikha Secondary School in Charbhuta Union, Lalmohan Upazila, Bhola.

Major Hafiz further said, “We do not need to learn Islam from Jamaat-e-Islami. There is nothing in Islam that says if you vote for a certain party you will go to heaven. Those who opposed Sheikh Hasina were tortured and made to face severe consequences.”

He assured the public that there would be no space for terrorism in Lalmohan-Tazumuddin. He criticized the past 17 years, saying, “You were not able to go to the polling stations freely. In the 2018 parliamentary election, the police surrounded my house the night before, while the Awami League stuffed ballot boxes in advance.”

The election rally was presided over by Charbhuta Union BNP President Ilyas Kalam Sarkar. Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed’s only daughter, Shyamama Shahrin Hafiz Tia, spoke as a special guest, urging voters to support the party’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol. Among others present were Lalmohan Upazila BNP President Jafar Iqbal, General Secretary Shafiqul Islam Babul, and leaders and activists from various BNP units of the union.
