Many lose temper by prospect of 11-party’s victory: Shafique

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has said that the possibility of an 11-party alliance victory in the 12 February parliamentary election has caused many to lose their tempers.
Addressing an election rally on Monday as the chief guest at the Padua ACM High School ground in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram, the Jamaat chief, without naming anyone directly, remarked that if tempers are already flaring in the month of Magh, one can only imagine what may happen in Chaitra.
He urged calm, saying frustration, desperation, and the embarrassment of anticipated defeat are making some see things that do not exist.
“We firmly believe that, Inshallah, Bangladesh will find the right path on 12 February. The people of this country will not make the wrong choice,” he said.
He added that the youth who led the July 2024 Uprising and ushered in a new Bangladesh are now the ones guiding the nation forward.
Shafiqur Rahman further stated that Jamaat envisions a Bangladesh free from middlemen, extortion, corruption, politically motivated cases, bank looting, and loan defaulters. “We want to build a humane Bangladesh,” he said.
During his speech, he asked the young people present whether they preferred unemployment benefits or meaningful work.
When the crowd responded in unison, chanting “Work, work,” he recalled that during the July Uprising, not a single young person demanded handouts.
Instead, they demanded recognition of their skills and opportunities to work as builders of the nation.
“We pledge that we will not humiliate the youth by offering unemployment benefits,” he said. “Rather, we will ensure education and training and provide them with jobs.”
Highlighting the crucial role played by women in the uprising, Shafiqur Rahman said that when female students were assaulted at Dhaka University, it ignited outrage across the country.
The following day, six courageous individuals were martyred nationwide. “Heroes never flee,” he said. “They either achieve victory or embrace martyrdom by facing bullets.”
