BNP claims abnormal voter migration in Dhaka
Staff Reporter :
The BNP on Sunday alleged that an unusually high number of voters have been transferred to certain constituencies in Dhaka and other parts of the country, and demanded constituency-wise voter migration data from the Election Commission (EC).
The allegation was raised during a meeting between a BNP
delegation—led by Election Steering Committee Chairman Nazrul Islam Khan—and Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Nazrul Islam Khan said a large number of voters had been shifted to specific constituencies, which he described as abnormal.
He said the EC informed the BNP that the number of migrated voters in any constituency does not exceed 2,000 to 3,000.
However, the BNP expressed dissatisfaction with the explanation, claiming the figures were inaccurate and that the EC itself had not received precise data from the relevant department.
“We believe the information provided to the EC is incorrect. In reality, the number of migrated voters is much higher,” Nazrul Islam Khan said, adding that the party has demanded constituency-wise migration data.
He also alleged that leaders and activists of a particular political party are campaigning by exploiting religious sentiments, which he said is a clear violation of the Representation of the People Order (RPO).
Nazrul Islam Khan claimed that members of the party were heard saying a Muslim would face questioning in the grave for voting for a specific electoral symbol, calling such statements an attempt to influence voters through religious belief and sentiment in violation of election laws.
