Tigresses qualify for ICC T20 Women’s WC

Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team qualified for the final phase of ICC T20 Women’s World Cup (WC) beating Thailand Women’s Cricket team by 39 runs in their first match of the ‘Super Six’ of the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers at Mulpani Cricket Ground in Nepal on Wednesday.
Put into bat first, the Tigresses piled up a satisfactory 165 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then restricted Thailand to 126 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.
Sobhana Mostary of Bangladesh was the highest run getter with 59 runs. Her 42-ball innings was laced with nine fours and a sixer. She was adjudged the Player of the Match for her superb batting display.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as they lost their early two wickets for 12 runs.
Opener Juairiya Ferdous and second down Sobhana Mostary salvaged their team from danger contributing together 110 runs for the third wicket partnership before Juairiya Ferdous was dismissed by Onnicha Kamchomphu when the Tigresses’ total was 122 for the loss of three wickets.
Juairiya Ferdous hit a marvelous 56. Her 45-ball innings was studded with four sixes and three fours.
After Juairiya’s dismissal, Bangladesh failed to build any notable partnership.
Ritu Moni made 15 from six deliveries featuring three fours.
Besdies, Sharmin Akhter scored 11 runs from nine balls including two fours.
Thipatcha Puthawong captured three wickets in the space of 22 runs, while Onnicha Kamchomhu bagged two wickets instead of 29 runs.
Phannitha Maya got one wicket conceding 33 runs.
Later, Bangladeshi bowlers checked the Thailand batters by their superb, tight and controlled bowling attack. Marufa Akter claimed three wickets in lieu of 25 runs, while Ritu Moni and Shorna Akter bagged two wickets each instead of 20 and 21 runs respectively. Fahima Khatun took one wicket for 18 runs.
Thailand women had a poor start as their opener Suwanan Khiaoto (0) was trapped leg before wicket by Marufa Akter when Thailand’s score was naught.
Opener Natthakan Chantham and one-down Nannapat Koncharoenkai repaired the damage adding together 67 runs in the second wicket stand before Chantham was dismissed by Fahima Khatun.
Chantham hit a polished 46. Her 41-ball knock was belted with seven fours.
Nannapat notched up a run-a-ball 29. She struck three fours before she was caught & bowled by Shorna Akter when Thailand’s total was 83 for the loss of three wickets.
Naruemol Chaiwai hit a captain’s knock of 30. She hit three fours in her 28-ball innings before she was stumped out by Dilara Akter off Shorna Akter when Theiland innings came to an end.
