BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman on Friday said if his party voted to power in the upcoming national election, his party will create huge jobs to solve the country’s unemployment problem.

Tarique Rahman said that prolonged movements and struggles have brought an end to autocracy, and now it is time to rebuild the country.

He said many of the country’s institutions were destroyed due to autocratic rule, and to reconstruct them, representatives elected by the people’s votes are essential.

“To establish democracy, representatives of the people must be elected and accountability must be ensured,” he said.

Tarique Rahman made the remarks on Friday while addressing an election rally held in Bhashantek in the capital.

Referring to what he described as the “I, you and dummy” elections, he said ordinary people were unable to approach their elected representatives with their problems during those elections.

Addressing the rally, he said, “I want to hear about your problems directly from you. My expectation is that in the future every elected representative will go to the people, listen to their problems, and work to resolve them.”

Before beginning his speech, Tarique Rahman interacted with people from various professions in Bhashantek, including van pullers, housewives, slum dwellers and students.

He discussed local problems with them and assured them that those issues would be addressed if he is elected and if his party comes to power.

Outlining his plans, the BNP chairperson said the party would introduce special cards for farmers and arrange loans on easy terms to promote agricultural development.

He also said training and education would be provided for young people to develop skilled manpower, enabling them to find employment, work abroad as skilled workers, or establish businesses on their own initiative.

Regarding women’s empowerment, he said initiatives would be taken to create employment opportunities for women and introduce family cards for them. He added that the BNP would also take effective measures to improve the living standards of slum dwellers if it comes to power.

Calling on people to take the pledge, “We will work, we will build the nation, Bangladesh first,” Tarique Rahman said that whenever the Sheaf of Paddy symbol has been elected by the people’s votes, people’s lives have improved.

To implement the party’s plans, he said the Sheaf of Paddy must be made victorious across the country, urging supporters to encourage even their relatives to vote for the symbol.

BNP Chairperson’s wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, was present on the stage along with BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan.

Also present were the chairperson’s advisers Abdus Salam, Farhad Halim Donar and Nazimuddin Alam; Dhaka North City BNP convener Aminul Haque; and member secretary Mostafa Zaman.

In addition, Bhashantek Thana BNP convener Kader Mahmud, Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna, and Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal General Secretary Sultana Ahmed attended the rally.
