This election is to defeat extortionists: Nahid

Staff Reporter :

NCP Convener Nahid Islam said that the students and the public of the Badda, Bhatara, and Rampura areas resisted the fascists with their blood. “Our mass uprising was not merely about changing the government. We sacrificed our lives to reform the state, and to establish democracy, justice, and equality. This election
is about changing the power structure and defeating land grabbers, extortionists, and loan defaulters.”
Speaking at a street rally in the New Market area of the capital on Friday as part of his election campaign, the 10-party alliance candidate for Dhaka-11 (Rampura, Badda, Bhatara), Nahid said, “We did not give our lives and blood to oust Sheikh Hasina only to install a new fascist in power. The students and people did not shed blood so that one extortionist leaves and another takes his place.”
He alleged that, seeing the surge of students and public support, a certain group has become rattled and is trying to spread propaganda and create an atmosphere of fear. “Insha’Allah, victory on 12 February will belong to the people,” he said.
Earlier in the morning, Nahid Islam exchanged greetings with citizens who had come out for walks and morning exercise at Basundhara Residential Area. In addition, a mass procession was held from Banshtola to Rampura. Advocate Atiqur Rahman—whose nomination from Jamaat-e-Islami in this constituency was withdrawn—was also present alongside Nahid Islam.
