Staff Reporter :

The government has decided to provide a total of Tk2 crore in financial assistance to the family of Inqilab Mancha Convener Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, including Tk1 crore for the purchase of a flat in Dhaka and another Tk1 crore for livelihood support.

Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed disclosed the decision Wednesday while speaking to journalists after chairing a meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase at the Cabinet Division Conference Room in the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Responding to a query, he said the assistance would be provided through two separate allocations.
“Tk1 crore will be allocated from the Ministry of Finance for purchasing a flat or house, although the full amount may not be required. Another Tk1 crore will be provided from the Chief Adviser’s fund to support the livelihood of Hadi’s family,” he said.

Dr Salehuddin added that the Ministry of Finance has already approved the Tk1 crore allocation for housing.
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi had earlier announced his intention to contest the 13th National Parliamentary Election as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency.

On 12 December, a day after the election and referendum schedules were announced, Hadi was shot in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan Model Police Station in Dhaka.

He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where he underwent surgery, and was later transferred to Evercare Hospital for advanced treatment.

On 15 December, Hadi was flown to Singapore by air ambulance and admitted to Singapore General Hospital. He passed away there on 18 December at around 9:30pm while undergoing treatment.
