Staff Reporter :

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, has strongly condemned and protested the incident in which female activists of the party’s women’s wing were confined, harassed, and local Jamaat and Islami Chhatra Shibir activists were attacked during a programme in Pirerbagh area of Mirpur in the capital.

In a statement sent to the media on Wednesday, Mia Golam Parwar expressed his condemnation of the incident.
In the statement, he said, “A meeting of the Jamaat-e-Islami women’s wing was taking place at a house beside Alimuddin High School in Pirerbagh, Mirpur.

At that time, local BNP leaders and activists confined Jamaat women leaders inside the house from 3:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

Later, when Jamaat and Chhatra Shibir leaders and activists moved forward to rescue them, BNP terrorists attacked them and detained several people inside a mosque.

At least 16 people were injured in the attack. With the assistance of the police and the army, those who were confined were later rescued. The injured are currently receiving treatment at hospitals.”

Mia Golam Parwar said, “We strongly condemn and protest this barbaric attack by terrorists. With the aim of obstructing the election and creating fear among ordinary voters, Jamaat women’s wing activists were harassed and Jamaat-Shibir activists were attacked. We demand the immediate identification, arrest, and prosecution of those terrorists involved in these attacks.”

He further said, “We call upon the administration and the Election Commission to ensure a level playing field before the election under a zero-tolerance policy, to arrest identified terrorists, to improve the law and order situation of the country, and to take strict measures to ensure public safety.”

In the statement, he also said, “In the electoral constituency of Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman—Dhaka-15—there is a deliberate attempt to influence the election by creating an abnormal law and order situation through the use of muscle power. In order to protect the fundamental rights of the people, ensure a free and fair election, and re-establish democracy, we call upon people from all walks of life to remain united against all forms of intimidation and terrorism.”
