Dhaka University organized its first-ever Pet Carnival on Tuesday (January 20) at the TSC premises, marking a unique and colorful addition to campus life. The event was arranged by the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) in collaboration with CARE DU, with support from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

The carnival was aimed at celebrating the emotional bond between students and their pets, promoting animal welfare, and raising awareness about responsible pet care. The event drew a large number of students, pet owners, and animal lovers, turning the TSC area into a lively and festive gathering.

DUCSU Vice President Shadik Kayem, Assistant General Secretary Muhammad Mahiuddin, and other DUCSU leaders were present at the event. The overall coordination of the program was led by DUCSU Executive Member Anas Ibn Munir.

The program featured a variety of activities, including a pet show, pet ramp walk, fun games, expert sessions on animal behavior, and hands-on training on pet care. Free veterinary services such as health check-ups, consultations, vaccination guidance, and nutritional advice were provided, allowing students to address health concerns of their pets.

Participants expressed satisfaction with the initiative. Many students said the carnival offered mental refreshment amid academic pressure while creating a supportive platform for pet lovers on campus.

Addressing the event, DUCSU Vice President Shadik Kayem said the pet carnival was not merely an entertainment program but a social awareness initiative.

He emphasized that showing compassion toward animals is a moral and humanitarian responsibility and called upon students to play an active role in protecting animals and preserving biodiversity on campus.
