BD may be replaced by Scotland: BCB to make final decision on ICC T20 WC participation tomorrow
Sports Reporter :
Uncertainty surrounding Bangladesh’s participation in the ICC T20 World Cup (WC) has not subsided. After objections to the tour of India, the matter is now on the ICC’s table. The BCB claims, they have clarified their position on the issue of changing the venue.
Cricket-based website ESPNcricinfo published a report stating that the ICC will not change the venue on the issue of Bangladesh’s participation in the World Cup (WC). If Bangladesh does not go to India, the ICC will call Scotland to fill that spot, AFP report on Monday.
AFP report, the ICC is considering an alternative team if the BCB does not send cricket team to India. In this case, Scotland will get the opportunity to play in the World Cup instead of Bangladesh because they are ahead according to the ICC rankings.
The ICC informed the BCB of the deadline (21 January) during a meeting was held in Dhaka on Saturday night. In the meeting, the BCB stood firm on their previous position that they want to participate in the World Cup, but outside India.
But the ICC is adamant about not changing their original schedule. According to the schedule, Bangladesh is in Group- C. BCB requested to the ICC that Bangladesh be moved to ‘Group B’ and swapped places with Ireland (whose matches were in Sri Lanka).
However, the ICC did not accept this proposal and they assured Bangladesh that there was no security risk.
With the T20 World Cup scheduled to begin on February 7, Bangladesh are currently slated to play their opening match against West Indies in Kolkata, followed by two more group games at the same venue, before concluding their group-stage fixtures in Mumbai.
The dispute traces back to the removal of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL 2026 squad on instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), without any official explanation.
