Unrest in alliances and parties over elections
The 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum are just around the corner. The appeal hearing against the decision of the Returning Officers has already been completed.
Today, January 20, is the last day to withdraw candidacy.
The final list of candidates will be available after that. According to election officials, if any candidate no longer wants to be in the field after the withdrawal period has passed, it is their personal matter, but legally their names and symbols will remain on the ballot paper.
This means that those of the BNP’s rebel candidates who do not withdraw their candidacies within the stipulated time will remain in the election. Similarly, those who withdraw from the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat, the path to returning to the alliance will also be closed. As a result, a kind of instability has arisen between the two main alliances.
According to the schedule, the final list of candidates will be published and symbols will be allotted on January 21. The formal election campaign will begin on January 22 and will continue until 7:30 am on February 10. Of course, many people are already carrying out unofficial propaganda activities. Incidents of clashes, protests and demonstrations are also taking place in various places.
Published data shows that the rate of murders, robberies, bandits, mob violence and other crimes was very high throughout 2025. In this one year alone, 133 people have been killed in political violence.
Seven thousand 511 people were injured. Last year, about 45 thousand murder cases were filed in the country. This information was obtained from the police headquarters and human rights organizations.
Crime analysts believe that the law and order situation is likely to worsen ahead of the national elections. They blame this on the fact that a large portion of the firearms looted by law enforcement during the 2024 mass uprising have not yet been recovered.
Media reports are also emerging that many top terrorists who are in prison have been released on bail and have started new terrorist activities. As a result, the situation is deteriorating further.
To overcome the disappointment of the people regarding the past three elections, the upcoming elections must be conducted in a fair, free, impartial and festive manner.
For this, the government and the Election Commission must pay maximum attention to protecting the election environment. Illegal firearms must be recovered quickly.
The intelligence network must be made much more active. We want the upcoming elections to be an election that fulfills the expectations of the people.
