Expelled Teacher’s Harassment Sparked Protest: Mirpur Girls’ Ideal Principal Seeks Redress
NN Report:
The administration, staff, and parents of Mirpur Girls’ Ideal Laboratory Institute have called for urgent government intervention to stop the continuous harassment and “false propaganda” orchestrated by Bipasha Yasmin, an expelled assistant teacher (music) of the institution.
In a press conference held on Saturday (January 17) at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity, Principal Zinat Farhana alleged that the expelled teacher has been using political influence and fabricated complaints to destabilize the educational environment.
Key Allegations and Background
According to the written statement provided by the Principal, Bipasha Yasmin’s tenure and subsequent expulsion are marked by controversy:
* Political Appointment: Yasmin was reportedly hired in 2015 on a non-MPO basis through the influence of the then-Awami League MP, Elias Mollah.
* Disciplinary Issues: Despite multiple “show-cause” notices for irregular behavior and misconduct, she reportedly failed to reform.
* Expulsion: On May 18, 2025, she was officially expelled following long-term irregularities, violent behavior, and spreading misinformation.
Post-Expulsion Harassment
Principal Farhana highlighted that since her expulsion, Yasmin has intensified her attacks against the school’s management and teachers:
* Social Media Smear Campaigns: She is accused of using social media to vent “venomous” rhetoric against the school committee.
* Bureaucratic Harassment: Yasmin has allegedly filed numerous anonymous and named complaints with the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) and other offices. “Teachers are being forced to run from office to office to defend themselves, which is severely affecting the students’ education,” the Principal stated.
* False Sexual Harassment Claims: It was revealed that Yasmin previously accused the Assistant Principal of sexual harassment. However, three separate investigations—by the school, DSHE, and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)—found the allegations to be baseless.
Shifting Political Identities
The press conference shed light on Yasmin’s alleged habit of “identity-shifting” to maintain power:
> “Previously, she claimed closeness to Awami League MPs and high-ranking officials to bypass school rules. After the recent political change, she began identifying as a leader of the ‘Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’ to intimidate staff,” Principal Farhana alleged.
>
The school administration noted that the Army personnel from the Mirpur-10 camp had to intervene multiple times to control the chaos she created on campus. Currently, she is reportedly claiming a close association with BNP leader Principal Selim Bhuiyan and the Bangladesh Teachers-Staff Unity Forum to exert further pressure.
Impact on the Institution
The Principal also mentioned that Yasmin recently influenced certain officials at DSHE to temporarily suspend her salary. However, the High Court has since stayed that order following a writ petition.
“We are mentally devastated by the continuous propaganda of an expelled teacher,” Farhana concluded, urging the Ministry of Education and the media to help protect the institution’s reputation and the students’ future.
The conference was attended by Assistant Principal Ahmad Ullah Kashemi, shift-in-charges Jasmine Ahmed and Suara Sultana, and approximately 40 teachers and parents.
