RNPP to play vital role: Salehuddin

Science and Technology Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed has voiced optimism that the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) would serve as a landmark project in Bangladesh’s power sector.

He said the completion of the plant would make a major contribution to meeting the country’s increasing electricity demand and support the achievement of energy security and sustainable development goals.

Salehuddin made the remarks on Tuesday while visiting the RNPP construction site in Ishwardi, Pabna.

During the visit, the adviser reviewed the ongoing construction activities and held discussions with engineers and workers involved in the project.

He praised their dedication and sought detailed updates on progress at various stages of implementation.

Salehuddin emphasized that the nuclear power plant is being developed in full compliance with international standards and safety regulations.

He also mentioned that nuclear fuel loading is expected to commence in the near future.

Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid, Finance Secretary Dr Md Khairuzzaman Majumder, Economic Relations Division Secretary Md Shahriar Quader Siddiqui, and Science and Technology Secretary Md Anwar Hossain accompanied him during the inspection.

Senior officials from the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Authority, along with the project director of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Construction Project, were also present at the site.
