3 held with deer traps in Sundarbans

Three notorious deer poachers were arrested by the forest guards in Kachikhali of the Sundarbans at Tuesday night. A large quantity of deer-catching snares and other equipment along with a trawler were seized during this time. The arrested poachers were sent to Bagerhat court on Wednesday.
According to forest department sources, forest guards led by Forester Md. Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the Kachikhali Sanctuary Center within the Eastern Division of Sundarbans Forest, were on a regular patrol duty in the river on Tuesday at around 10 pm.
When a signal was given to stop an engine-powered trawler at Sukpara outside Kachikhali of the Sundarbans, the trawler moored next to the Sundarbans and four poachers jumped out of the trawler and fled away into the Sundarbans. At that time, the forest guards were able to arrest three others from the trawler.
Forest guards searched the trawler and seized a 600-foot long deer-catching snare, a cock sheet, two knives, ten plastic bags and other deer-hunting equipment. The arrested hunters are Aliul Islam Gazi (43), Imran Gazi (18) and Kamal Gazi (41) hail from the village Koralia under Patharghata Upazila in Patuakhali district.
