US envoy vows to strengthen bilateral ties

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen has expressed optimism about deepening ties between Dhaka and Washington, reaffirming the United States’ commitment to its long-standing partnership with Bangladesh.
Christensen made the remarks after formally presenting his credentials to President
Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban on Thursday, a customary step marking the official start of his diplomatic assignment.
In a post on X, he said he was honoured to present his ambassadorial credentials and described Bangladesh as a valued friend of the United States.
Highlighting the broader context of bilateral relations, the ambassador noted that the two countries have shared more than five decades of cooperation.
During this period, he said, the partnership has focused on promoting regional stability, advancing economic growth that benefits both nations, and upholding national sovereignty.
He added that he looks forward to building on this foundation in the coming days and working to further strengthen the US-Bangladesh relationship.
Christensen previously served at the US Embassy in Dhaka as counsellor for political and economic affairs from 2019 to 2021.
He formally assumed his role as ambassador on January 12. The following day, he met Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam and Chief of Protocol Nural Islam to discuss key diplomatic priorities.
