Severe cold hits Ishwardi: Temperature drops to 7.3°C

Pabna Correspondent :

A moderate cold wave is sweeping through the northern township of Ishwardi. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature in Ishwardi was recorded at 7.3 degrees Celsius.

The severity of the cold has intensified due to icy winds descending from the Himalayas. Harsh cold and dense fog have brought severe disruption to daily life.

On Wednesday morning, the lowest temperature of the season was recorded at the Ishwardi Weather Observation Centre. At that time, air humidity was 100 percent, and cold winds were blowing at a speed of 5 to 6 kilometers per hour.

As night deepens, roads and highways are being covered by dense fog. From dawn until morning, the fog becomes so thick that visibility is reduced to just a few feet. As a result, vehicles on the highways are moving slowly with headlights on.

Day laborers, working-class people, and low-income workers are the worst affected by the bitter cold. Driven by the need to earn a livelihood, they are forced to go out early in the morning, braving the freezing conditions.

Rickshaw puller Sudeb Sarkar from the upazila town said, “In the morning, it’s so cold and foggy that the road is hardly visible. Still, I have to go out for the sake of earning. My hands and feet go numb from the cold.”

Day laborer Rabeya Khatun from Noor Mohalla said, “It’s very difficult to work in the morning. Nothing is visible because of the fog, but if I don’t go to work, my family can’t survive.”

The cold weather has also affected students. Mousumi Akhtar, a student of Ishwardi Government SM High School and College, said, “It’s very hard to go to school in the morning.

The fog is so dense that you can’t see ahead. It feels extremely cold.”
A guardian, Afsar Ali, said, “In such foggy conditions, it’s scary to send small children to school. You never know what might happen.”

Nazmul Haque Ranjan, an observer at the Ishwardi Weather Office, said, “Today, the season’s lowest temperature of 7.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Ishwardi.

The air humidity was 100 percent, and cold winds were blowing at a speed of 5 to 6 kilometers per hour. This type of cold weather may continue for the next few days.”
