Patharghata SI detained for attempted bribery

A Sub-Inspector (SI) of Patharghata Police Station was detained by magistrate for trying to bribe in favour of an accused in a CR case lobbying for bail in Patharghata Upazila of Barguna.

Later, after he was taken into custody, but released on bond under the conditions of the divisional case.
The incident took place at the Patharghata Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday afternoon.
The detained police officer is SI Shahriar Jalal of Patharghata Police Station.

According to court sources, Senior Judicial Magistrate Panir Sheikh was staying in his private chamber when SI Shahriar entered there with permission.

He recommended bail for the accused Raju Mia, who is under arrest warrant, by showing the documents of the court’s case CR No. 780/23 and requesting to arrange a recall.

It is alleged that at that time, the police officer wanted to give money as a bribe to the judge in order to exert illegal influence.

When the judge felt embarrassed about this, the matter was immediately revealed in the presence of the court police inspector, GRO and court support staff.

Later, SI Shahriar was detained in the court premises on charges of misconduct and criminal offense.
Upon receiving the news of the incident, the OC of Patharghata Police Station and Additional Superintendent of Police (Patharghata Circle) informed the Barguna District Superintendent of Police Kudrat-e-Khuda.

After the District Superintendent of Police assured magistrate of lodging a departmental case.
Then police officer was taken into custody in the afternoon through a bond with the OC of Patharghata Police Station Mong Chen La.

In this regard, Patharghata Police Station OC Mang Chen La said This is a matter of the magistrate and the concerned SI.
