Mahmudullah Riyad played an important role in helping Fortune Barishal win the title in the last edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket. Despite his excellent performance, no team expressed interest in taking him to the team in the first call of the BPL auction this time. Such an incident has surprised Riyad as well. Mahmudullah said in the press conference after being awarded the Man of the Match against Sylhet Titans, “Yes, I was watching (the auction) and I was really shocked. Because, if you look at the cricket performance and statistics of the last two-three years, I think many national team players are not even close to me. That is in terms of strike rate, average or runs.”

Thanking the Rangpur franchise, Mahmudullah said, ”I really want to thank Ishtiaq Sadeq bhai and the Rangpur Riders franchise. Because no one took me in the beginning, then they gave me this opportunity. I also wanted to play BPL. After getting this opportunity, I have a strong urge to prove my worth to the franchise and team owners, the coach and the captain.’
