Bangladesh civil servants’ body mourns death of ex-PM Khaleda Zia

The Bangladesh Administrative Service Association (BASA) has expressed deep sorrow at the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, describing her passing as a profound loss for the nation.
In a condolence meeting held yesterday at the association’s headquarters in Dhaka, BASA leaders and members prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to her bereaved family. The meeting was presided over by Md Nazrul Islam, president of the organisation.
The special prayer session was attended as the chief guest by M Siraj Uddin Mia, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser. Special guests included Senior Secretary Md Ehsanul Haque of the Ministry of Public Administration, Senior Secretary Nasimul Ghani of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Dr Muhammad Mokhlesur Rahman, Senior Secretary and Member of the Planning Commission.
Speakers at the event recalled Begum Khaleda Zia’s long political career and her role in Bangladesh’s democratic journey. They noted that as a three-time prime minister, she played a significant role in shaping the country’s political landscape and strengthening parliamentary democracy.
The association said her death marked the end of an era in Bangladesh politics and urged the nation to remember her contributions with respect. Special prayers were offered seeking forgiveness and eternal peace for her soul.
Senior members of the Bangladesh Administrative Service, including former and current office bearers from various levels, attended the condolence meeting.
Khaleda Zia, chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was one of the most influential political figures in Bangladesh for more than three decades.
