Yunus consoles Tarique Rahman at janaza

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday expressed his condolences to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman over the death of his mother, former prime minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
According to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, Professor Yunus conveyed his sympathy when Tarique Rahman, the elder son of the late BNP leader, arrived at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital to attend his mother’s namaz-e-janaza in the afternoon.
The chief adviser joined thousands of mourners in offering funeral prayers for Khaleda Zia, alongside political leaders, party activists and members of the public. Millions across the country also participated in prayers and tributes for the three-time former prime minister. Several foreign dignitaries attended the funeral, reflecting Khaleda Zia’s prominence in Bangladesh’s political history and her role as a leading figure in the country’s democratic movements.
Khaleda Zia, Bangladesh’s first female prime minister and a long-time leader of opposition politics, died at 6:00am on Tuesday at the age of 80 while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.
She served as prime minister on three occasions and led the BNP for more than four decades, remaining a central figure in the country’s political landscape until her death.
