CA declares 3-day state mourning, general holiday today

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday announced a three-day state mourning following the death of three-time former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
In his televised address to the nation, Prof Yunus also declared a one-day general holiday on the day of her Namaz-e-Janaza (today).
“At the passing of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, I hereby declare three days of state mourning and a general holiday on the day of her Namaz-e-Janaza,” he said.
The address was broadcast simultaneously at noon on Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar.
The Chief Adviser urged the public to maintain discipline, patience and order during the Janaza and throughout the mourning period.
“I know the nation is deeply saddened at this moment. I appeal to all to remain patient and cooperate with the authorities in observing all formalities, including her Namaz-e-Janaza,” he said.
Praying for national unity, Prof Yunus said, “May Almighty Allah grant us patience, strength and the wisdom to remain united.”
Describing the loss as a moment of profound national grief, the Chief Adviser said the entire country was mourning the passing of a towering figure of democratic politics.
“With her demise, the nation has lost a great guardian,” he said, expressing deep shock and sorrow.
On behalf of the nation, Prof Yunus extended heartfelt condolences to Khaleda Zia’s family, political associates, and her countless leaders, activists and supporters. He also prayed for strength for the nation to overcome this immense loss.
Calling Begum Khaleda Zia a dignified and historic figure in Bangladesh’s political landscape, the Chief Adviser said her pivotal role in establishing democracy, nurturing a multi-party political system, and defending people’s rights would remain permanently etched in history.
Her resolute leadership against autocracy and fascism repeatedly guided the nation out of democratic crises and inspired the people in their struggle for freedom, he said, adding that her contributions would always be remembered with the highest respect.
Prof Yunus said Khaleda Zia’s long political journey, people-centric leadership and steadfast commitment to the country’s independence and sovereignty would remain unforgettable.
“The void left by such a visionary, patriotic and great leader can never truly be filled,” he added.
Urging prayers for the departed soul, the Chief Adviser called on citizens to seek forgiveness for Begum Khaleda Zia from Almighty Allah from their respective positions.
He also appealed for national unity during this sensitive time, warning against any attempt to exploit the moment of grief.
“We must remain united and vigilant so that no one can use this sorrow to create instability or carry out acts of sabotage,” he said, emphasizing the importance of responsible conduct by all.
