‘Khaleda’s health condition stable, showing gradual improvement’

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s physical condition remains stable, with doctors observing slight but steady improvement, a member of her medical board said on Tuesday evening.
“Her health has not worsened. This stability is reassuring for us. Madam is receiving the highest level of medical care at Evercare Hospital,” the doctor told journalists.
He added, “Madam is improving, though not at the pace we would ideally hope for.
Her advanced age significantly limits the range and speed of possible medical interventions.
At this stage of life, attempting multiple treatment procedures at once carries substantial risk.”
The doctor further explained that a recent chest infection had caused considerable discomfort and put strain on her overall health.
“Recovering from the infection alone has required immense strength from her,” he noted.
He also confirmed that the medical board has no immediate plan to send the former prime minister abroad for treatment. “There has been no new deterioration in her condition.
That, for us, is the most encouraging sign.” The medical team has unanimously advised against moving Khaleda Zia abroad until her condition stabilizes further.
The doctor stressed that she is receiving world-class treatment at Evercare.
“Contrary to popular assumptions, immediate testing and rapid results are not always available abroad-these processes often take time.”
He added that alongside the country’s leading medical experts, specialists from the United Kingdom, the United States, and China are also involved in supervising her treatment.
Meanwhile, the air ambulance arranged to carry the ailing BNP chief to London will not be arriving in Dhaka today.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) had earlier granted the aircraft permission to land at 8:20am on Tuesday and depart around 9pm the same day.
However, the operator has since requested the cancellation of its previously approved landing schedule at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
