JUCSU moves for student safety

JU Correspondent:

The Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) has undertaken several initiatives to ensure student safety, healthcare, and transport facilities on and around the campus.

The steps include strengthening security along the Dhaka-Aricha highway adjacent to the university, resuming auto-rickshaw movement within the campus, and modernising the university medical centre.

Following JUCSU’s demand, a team from the Roads and Highways Department (RHD), under the instruction of the
adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, visited the highway area from C&B to Bishmail near the campus.

After the inspection, the authorities decided to build footpaths, install adequate streetlights, set up “No Horn” signboards, and establish passenger sheds and parking lanes in several spots.
Security measures around the highway will also be enhanced in coordination with Ashulia police.

To improve healthcare services, JUCSU leaders recently met with Health and Family Welfare Secretary Md Saidur Rahman and raised the need for modernising the university medical centre. Officials said that the number of available medicines has increased from 30 to 85 varieties, including antibiotics, vaccines, saline and nebuliser solutions, thanks to JACS’s efforts.

JUCSU’s general secretary Mazharul Islam said the student union had been working to ensure sustainable improvements in student welfare. “From highway safety to healthcare modernisation, we are committed to bringing lasting change,” he said.

After 33 years, the JUCSU election was held on September 11.
