Tangail Correspondent of ‘Amar Desh’ and NTV Receives Death Threats via Text Message; GD Filed with Police
Tangail Correspondent:
Mohabbat Hossain, Tangail Correspondent of the Daily Amar Desh and Staff Correspondent of NTV, has reportedly received death threats and threats of being implicated in at least five murder cases through text messages.
According to reports, journalist Mohabbat Hossain lodged a General Diary (GD) with Tangail Sadar Police Station late Sunday night following the incident.
Sources said that on Sunday evening, a man named Labu Khondaker sent an audio message to Mohabbat Hossain’s WhatsApp number, followed by a series of threatening text messages. In one of the messages, Labu Khondaker reportedly said, “Sultan Salauddin Tuku will not be able to save you.”
He further threatened to have Mohabbat dismissed from his newspaper and television jobs and to implicate him in five murder cases. Labu also warned that if Mohabbat visited the NTV or Amar Desh offices in Dhaka, his “hands and legs would be broken.”
Additionally, Labu allegedly sent several photos via WhatsApp, including envelopes and courier receipts of complaints that were sent to the offices of Amar Desh and NTV against the journalist.
The audio message sent by Labu Khondaker reportedly contains a conversation in which an unidentified woman is instructed to record a false statement as the complainant in a fabricated murder case. The recording also includes defamatory comments involving BNP’s Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku and journalist Mohabbat Hossain. The manipulated audio was later circulated on social media by Labu Khondaker.
In the GD, Mohabbat Hossain stated that under the instigation of a local journalist leader, Labu Khondaker has for several months been spreading defamatory posts on social media, using personal photos of him and his family members to tarnish his image publicly.
