A five-day training workshop on “Capacity Development for CBO Members Through Technical (Machine Operation and Fish Feed Formulation) Training” began today at the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) in Mymensingh.
The inaugural session was held at the BFRI conference room at 8:30 am, where BFRI Director General (DG) Dr. Anuradha Bhadra, Chief Scientific Officer and Head of the Center Dr. Md. Harunur Rashid, Senior Scientific Officer Dr. Md. Shariful Islam and FAO’s National Capacity Building and Training Expert Kingkar Chandra Saha were present.
A total of 21 participants from different community-based organizations (CBOs) from the coastal areas of the southern region and the haor region are taking part in the training, which will continue till October 25.
The event is organized under the Community-based Climate Resilient Fisheries and Aquaculture Development in Bangladesh Project (GCP/BGD/055/LDF), jointly implemented by the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Bangladesh, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The training aims to strengthen the technical and entrepreneurial capacity of CBO members who have received fish feed machines under the project. Participants will receive hands-on training on machine operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and sustainable fish feed formulation using locally available ingredients.
Experts from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), the Department of Fisheries, and the private fish feed industry will conduct theoretical sessions and practical demonstrations during the program.
Officials said the initiative is expected to enhance participants’ technical efficiency and business management skills, enabling them to operate feed machines effectively and promote climate-smart, sustainable aquaculture practices across the country.
