The drive was conducted on Monday (October 13). Later, Executive Magistrate T.M. Rahsin Kabir of the district administration sentenced eight of the arrestees to three days’
imprisonment each, and the remaining seven to seven days’ imprisonment through a mobile court. Magistrate Rahsin Kabir said that this broker ring had long been
harassing and deceiving patients to extort money. “They were arrested during today’s operation. Such drives will continue,” he added. There are allegations that several private clinics and diagnostic centers in the city are linked to this broker network. It has also been reported that a few corrupt doctors from the hospital are involved in commission- based dealings through these brokers. Locals have demanded regular monitoring and strict action from the authorities to permanently eliminate such middlemen, so that the Khanpur Hospital can regain a normal and trustworthy healthcare environment.
