9.56 lakh children to get typhoid vaccines
Sr.Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj :
A total of 956,774 children aged between nine months and under 15 years are set to receive typhoid vaccines under the upcoming Typhoid Vaccination Campaign (TVC) 2025 in 13 Upazilas and 8 municipalities of Kishoreganj.
Civil Surgeon (CS) of Kishoreganj, Dr. Ovijeet Sarmah, disclosed the information while addressing a press conference on the campaign at the Civil Surgeon Office conference room on Wednesday.
Dr. Ovijeet Sarmah said that children within the specified age group are more susceptible to typhoid infection and urged the media to help raise awareness and ensure the success of the campaign.
“We are working relentlessly to bring all targeted children under online registration so that they can be vaccinated properly,” added the CS.
Parents can register their children online using the 17-digit birth registration number to obtain a vaccine card.
In the absence of a birth certificate, registration can be completed using a parent’s mobile number, and written proof of vaccination will be provided.
The campaign will use the single-dose injectable typhoid conjugate vaccine, supplied by Gavi, which offers protection for three to seven years and has been proven safe with no major side effects.
Dr. Ovijeet urged parents to avail themselves of this free government initiative to protect their children from typhoid, a disease associated with poor sanitation and unsafe drinking water.
“We must remain vigilant to ensure that no one spreads misinformation or creates confusion about the vaccine,” he added.
Deputy Civil Surgeon (DCS) Dr. Didarul Islam, Sadar UHFPO Dr. Nazmul Karim, and officials from UNICEF were also present. They emphasised that mass awareness is essential for the success of the campaign and noted that the role of mass media is vital in this regard.
