Yunus for self-sufficiency over LDC graduation
Staff Reporter :
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday underscored the importance of achieving self-sufficiency rather than merely graduating from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category.
“We must be clear that we no longer wish to remain dependent on others. Our goal should be to become self-reliant as soon as possible-there is no alternative,” he said.
Professor Yunus made the remarks while chairing a meeting of the National Steering Committee formed to ensure a smooth and sustainable transition of Bangladesh from the LDC status. The meeting was held at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon.
Later in the day, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed reporters about the meeting at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Highlighting the vision of a self-reliant Bangladesh, the Chief Adviser said, “To achieve this, we must change our habits. We need to use our intellect, work hard, and persevere. Though the journey may be difficult, there is joy in striving for self-reliance. When we speak of a new Bangladesh, it must be a self-sufficient one.”
He added that the nation possesses ample potential to stand on its own feet. “Our youth and creativity are our greatest assets. We have both the strength and the opportunity-now we must make the best use of them. A self-reliant economy is essential to free the nation from dependency. We do not want to live in servitude,” he said.
