Transport workers attack illegal sand truck during raid in Sylhet: 5 police injured
Sylhet Bureau :
Five policemen were injured in an attack by transport workers during a raid on an illegal sand truck in Companiganj, Sylhet.
The attack occurred at a check post on a road adjacent to Companiganj Police Station on Sunday afternoon.
Officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station Ratan Sheikh said that as a regular activity, a check post was being operated by stopping trucks under the leadership of a traffic sergeant.
At that time, when a sand-laden truck was stopped, several workers came from behind and got into an argument with the police. At one stage, the workers, led by local transport worker leader Mahfuz, attacked the police.
In this, 5 policemen were injured. The injured have been admitted to the local health complex. However, no one was seriously injured in the incident.
The labor leaders alleged that the police were collecting bribes from the trucks while operating the check post.
The OC said that preparations are underway to file a case at the Companiganj police station in connection with the attack.
Earlier, the administration intensified operations against illegal stone and sand trucks after the white stone looting incident in August.
