President Xi greets BD on 50 years of diplomatic ties

Bangladesh and China have marked the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, highlighting a partnership built on mutual respect, trust, and long-standing cooperation, the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka said on Saturday.

The milestone was commemorated through congratulatory messages exchanged between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin. Xi described Bangladesh and China as traditional friendly neighbors with a long history of exchanges.

He noted that over the past 50 years, regardless of changes in the international and regional landscape, the two countries have always fostered friendly relations based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, setting an example of mutual respect, equality, and win-win cooperation.
Xi highlighted that in recent years, China and Bangladesh have consolidated political mutual trust, expanded high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and enhanced practical cooperation in various fields, further deepening their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

He stressed that he attaches great importance to relations with Bangladesh and stands ready to work with President Shahabuddin to take the 50th anniversary as an opportunity to carry forward traditional friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote common development, benefiting the two peoples and contributing to world peace and development.
For his part, President Shahabuddin said that over the past 50 years, Bangladesh and China have forged a deep friendship based on mutual respect and trust, as well as enduring cooperation that has brought tangible benefits to their peoples.

He noted Bangladesh’s appreciation of China’s important role in promoting regional peace, stability, and common prosperity, and expressed gratitude for China’s long-term valuable support for Bangladesh’s sustainable development.
He expressed the belief that with the joint efforts of the leaders and peoples of the two countries, bilateral cooperation will yield even greater results.
On the same day, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Bangladeshi interim government Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus also exchanged congratulatory messages. Li said that China highly values the development of China-Bangladesh relations and stands ready to work with Bangladesh to take the 50th anniversary as an opportunity to accelerate high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, expand collaboration across various fields, and promote the continued growth of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
Yunus said that since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations 50 years ago, the friendship between the two peoples has grown stronger, bilateral ties have developed steadily, and cooperation has yielded fruitful results, which is worth celebrating.
He added that Bangladesh is committed to promoting new achievements in the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka confirmed that the exchanges underscore the enduring strength of China-Bangladesh relations and the mutual commitment to continued partnership in diverse fields.
