People’s anxiety growing over the national elections

The kind of changes that people expected in various sectors of the country after the last year’s July Uprising has not been fulfilled.

The unity that was created among political parties in the anti-autocracy movement has now been replaced by disunity and division.

Some parties are agitating for various demands, including changes in the electoral system.

Most parties do not agree on many demands, including PR and constitutional amendments.These demands by some parties will further increase division.

According to economists and industry insiders, the country is gradually becoming weaker economically.

There is no new investment. Many existing factories are being closed. Thus, unemployment rate is also increasing rapidly.

Even though income is not increasing, the prices of daily necessities are rising.

Poverty rates are also increasing. The law and order situation has reached a worrying level.

Criticism is also increasing about the government’s activities. And for these reasons, anxiety is also increasing in the public mind.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP and some other parties are demanding the next national elections on the legal basis of the July Charter. Dialogue with the Consensus Commission is underway on this demand.

On the opther hand, the BNP and its allies say they are not against the July Charter, but they have some differences of opinion on some of the charter’s clauses and the process of its implementation.

The consensus commission hopes that there will be consensus among the parties in the interest of the country.

Experts say it is not unusual that there will be divisions in political parties. But the question is the country’s economy, social conditions – everything is out of control today. The lack of trust among people is becoming increasingly strong.

Any group can take advantage of such a situation. Instability can arise in the country.

They also believe that there is a risk of continued instability and the spread of extremist approaches in the country if there is no democratic revival.

The situation is not good in terms of investment either. What is visible in various data is a crisis of trust. People’s perception of the interim government is no longer as positive as before.

We believe that it is very important to transfer power to an elected government to maintain peace, order and stability in the country.

For that purpose, elections must be held as announced in February next year.

If the elections are postponed due to any kind of manipulation or strategy, the outcome will be suicidal.
