Councillor aspirant held for violence during CCC polls

Police have arrested a councillor aspirant and his bodyguard in a case over violence during Chittagong City Corporation polls.
Jasim Uddin, 45, alias Barmaia Jasim and his bodyguard ‘Yusuf’, 30, were arrested from Jasim’s second wife’s house at Boubazar yesterday morning. Jasim was the councillor aspirant of ward-35 at Bakshirhat.
He allegedly led an attack on rival Nurul Haque Kazi’s followers leaving several injured at MN College centre at Bakalia on Apr 28.
Bakalia Police Station OC Mohammad Mohsin said injured Akter Hossain was still at the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.
Hossain’s wife ‘Roksana’ filed the case naming Jasim as the key accused.
Jasim has several other cases on him over clashes, oppression of women and children and under narcotics act.
