CA directs to send Nur abroad for treatment
Staff Reporter :
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has instructed the Ministry of Health to make urgent arrangements to send Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur abroad for advanced medical treatment.
Nur was critically injured on 29 August when police baton-charged during clashes between activists of his party and the Jatiyo Party in Dhaka’s Kakrail area.
“We are deeply shocked by this incident. The government has ensured his proper treatment, and a judicial inquiry into the matter is already underway,” the chief adviser said while meeting a delegation of Gono Odhikar Parishad at the State Guest House Jamuna on Tuesday (2 September).
The delegation included Nur’s wife, Maria Akhter, General Secretary
Rashed Khan, and Senior Joint General Secretary Hasan Al Mamun.
According to a statement from the CA’s Press Wing, Maria Akhter broke down in tears while describing her husband’s condition.
She said Nur had suffered a brain hemorrhage, a fractured nose, and injuries to his jaw and spine, stressing that he must be taken abroad for better treatment.
Advisers Asif Nazrul (Law), Syeda Rizwana Hasan (Environment), and Adilur Rahman Khan (Industries) were present at the meeting.
Law Adviser Asif Nazrul informed that a one-member probe body headed by Justice Ali Reza is being constituted to investigate the attack.
A gazette notification will be issued by Wednesday, and the committee is expected to submit its findings within 15 days, he added.
