30,000 families in Dumuria marooned
Khulna Correspondent :
The suffering of the people in the water knows no bounds. They have been living in extreme poverty for almost two months under water.
But no one is looking out for them. There is knee-deep water on the streets, waist-deep water in the courtyard, no place to cook, no firewood. They eat one morning’s cooking until the next morning.
They ride boats and canoes and defecate in the beel. Whenever they see clouds, they get scared, I don’t know what will happen this time! Chandrakant Mandal of the water-logged Varanasi village said these words on Tuesday.
The people of Dumuria have been under water for almost two months. Although two high-powered pumps were used to drain the water from the Shailmari regulator, the water has not decreased at all.
On the contrary, it has gradually increased. Roads, homes, fish pens, vegetable fields, educational institutions are all under water. In this situation, millions of people are living a miserable life.
