Massive Victory for BNP in N’ganj District Bar Association Election, Jamaat Suffers Defeat

In the Narayanganj District Bar Association election, the BNP-
backed panel led by President Advocate Sarker Humayun Kabir
and General Secretary Advocate HM Anwar Pradhan secured a
sweeping victory. Out of 17 posts, BNP-backed lawyers won 16,
while only one member post went to Jamaat-backed panel
candidate Advocate Afroza Jahan.
The results were announced at 12:30 a.m. on Thursday night by the
association’s Chief Election Commissioner, Advocate Abdul Bari
Bhuiyan. Voting took place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in a festive
and peaceful atmosphere. Among 1,172 registered voters, 1,053
cast their ballots.
This time, BNP-aligned lawyers were split into two panels. One
was led by Advocate Sarker Humayun Kabir (president) and
Advocate HM Anwar Pradhan (general secretary), while the other
was led by Advocate Rezaul Karim Khan Reza (president) and
Advocate Sheikh Md. Golam Morshed Galib (general secretary).
The Jamaat-backed panel was led by Advocate A. Hafiz Molla
(president) and Advocate Md. Main Uddin Mia (general secretary).
The election turned into a celebratory event for lawyers, who
gathered at the Narayanganj court premises to vote in a joyous and
peaceful environment. Both BNP and Jamaat supporters were seen
enjoying the festive mood.
The winning candidates in the election are President Sarkar
Humayun Kabir (600 votes), Senior Vice President Kazi A. Gaffar
(697 votes), Vice President Saddam Hossain (555 votes), General
Secretary HM Anwar Pradhan (718 votes), Joint Secretary Omar
Faruk Nayan (675 votes), Treasurer Shahazada Dewan (655 votes),
Hospitality Secretary Main Uddin Reza (797 votes), Library
Secretary Habibur Rahman (590 votes), Sports Secretary Aminul
Islam (645 votes), Literary and Cultural Secretary Sarwar Jahan
(572 votes), Social Service Secretary Rajib Mondal (600 votes),
Law and Human Rights Secretary Mamun Mahmud (585 votes).
The winners of the member post are Fatema Akter Sweety (697
votes), Dewan Ashraful (734 votes), Tehsin Hasan Dipu (574
votes), Abu Raihan Pal (694 votes). Afroza Jahan was elected as a
member from the Jamaat-backed panel with 523 votes.
