Balaganj Sadar Union Chairman took oath after 4 years of election

After a long 4 years of the election, Sylhet’s Balaganj Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Munim took oath.After the long legal complications, the oath was administered to him at the Deputy Commissioner’s office of Sylhet on Wednesday (August 27) at 4 pm by Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam.
According to relevant sources, elections were held in 6 unions of Balaganj Upazila on November 11 as part of the nationwide elections in 2021.
In this election, independent candidate (BNP leader) Abdul Munim was re-elected as chairman in the election held in Balaganj Sadar Union. After the election results were announced, a written complaint was filed with the Election Commission on behalf of the Awami League-nominated rival chairman and Upazila Awami League Joint General Secretary Junaid Mia. After that, the official gazette and assumption of office of the then elected council were suspended due to various legal complications.
After the change of government on August 5 last year, rival chairman and Awami League leader Juned Mia withdrew his written complaint. Based on this, the oath-taking ceremony as the elected chairman was held on Wednesday.
Earlier, Chairman Abdul Munim was supposed to take oath, but it was not completed.
Speaking on the matter, newly elected Chairman Abdul Munim said, truth has triumphed. The activities of the new council of Balaganj Sadar Union will start based on everyone’s cooperation and suggestions.
