Khaleda warns of consequences

Some cops sucking feet of ruling party

UNB, Dhaka :
Alleging that a section of the members of the police are doing ‘excesses’, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday night warned that dire consequences await them.
“I won’t accuse all police members. But, some of them are sucking the feet of the ruling party. I want to tell them stop indulging in misdeeds, unjust and repression. Or else, the consequences won’t be good. It may take 5-10 years or 20 years, but you must be punished for your wrong doings,” she said.
The BNP chief further said, “You all know the names of some police officials who are doing the excesses. I shouldn’t mention their names. I want to ask them: stop doing excesses. Otherwise, its consequences will be very dire and dangerous.”
Khaleda came up with the harsh remarks while exchanging views with pro-BNP freedom fighters at her Gulshan office.
She said, the current government has been in power counting on some police and RAB members as it has no popularity. “This government is not holding office with public support. It fears elections and freedom fighters after losing the ground beneath its feet.”
The government has gradually brought the entire country under its clutch like an
octopus, Khaleda said, urging the freedom fighters to come forward and save the country from it and its people from misrule, repression and corruption.
“The country is passing through a critical juncture, there’s no democracy, human rights, basics rights, the rule of law and the security of people in the country. People are getting killed and disappeared every day. We must restore democracy to get rid of it,” she observed.
Khaleda called upon the freedom fighters to be more active to depict the corruption and misdeeds of the current regime before the country’s people. “You’ll have to go to all over the country and arrange frequent programmes to project the misdeeds of the government.”
“Freedom fighters must think of the country’s sordid state. They’ll have to make people united and free the country from the grasp of current autocratic and repressive regime with well-thought-out plans and programmes,” the BNP chief told the freedom fighters.
Accusing the government of carrying out false propaganda against BNP only to hide its misdeeds and mislead people, Khaleda said lies will never be able to defeat the truth. “The victory of truth is inevitable. It may take time, even then we may in our lifetime, will be able to see the dire consequences of the current regime.”
Denouncing the attack on Chhatra Union activists by police near the DMP office, Khaleda said the government has turned the entire country into a police state. “The police are attacking students targeting their heads. You’ve seen how they repressed and beat up students, including female ones. They want to destroy the new generation and suppress them.”
She also criticised the government for not taking action against those assaulted omen on the Dhaka University Campus on April 14. “The shameless government didn’t arrest anyone, let alone try them, as those assaulted women on Pahela Baishakh belong to the ruling party.”
