NCP team to visit China

A delegation from the youth-led National Citizen Party (NCP) will travel to China later this month at the invitation of the Chinese government, marking the party’s first high-level overseas political engagement.
Party officials confirmed on Friday that the eight-member team will be led by NCP convener Nahid Islam, who is scheduled to fly to Malaysia on Saturday before heading to Beijing. The China visit will take place from August 26 to 31.
Ahead of the trip, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen met senior NCP leaders in Dhaka to discuss the programme.
Those present at the meeting included Senior Joint Convener Samanta Sharmin, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Northern Region Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam, Senior Joint Member Secretary Nahida Sarwar Niva, Joint Convener Mahbub Alam, and Joint Member Secretary Tahsin Riaz.
Party member secretary Akhtar Hossain, who is also part of the delegation, was unable to attend as he was outside Dhaka.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Riaz said the visit would encompass both political discussions and cultural exchanges. “We are scheduled to meet the central body of the Communist Party’s international department as well as several provincial-level leaders,” he said.
Since its inception, the NCP has focused primarily on grassroots tours across Bangladesh, seeking to engage young voters and expand its national presence. With the upcoming China trip and Nahid’s scheduled visit to Malaysia, the party is now preparing to extend its outreach to countries with significant Bangladeshi diaspora communities.
Party insiders described the visit as an opportunity to strengthen international exposure for the newly formed political group, which has positioned itself as a youth-oriented platform advocating reform and wider representation in Bangladesh’s democratic process.
