Travel ban on Rongdhanu Group owner, sons

Staff Reporter :

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Zakir Hossain Galib’s court on Monday (August 11) imposed a travel ban on Rongdhanu Group owner Rafiqul Islam and his two sons, Kawser Ahmed Apu and Mehedi Hasan Dipu, following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC Assistant Director Md Abul Kalam Azad filed the petition, which alleges that Rafiqul and others embezzled Tk 1,000 crore from Islami Bank’s Anderkilla branch in Chattogram through forged documents and fake mortgages linked to Silver Food Industries.

The accused are also suspected of laundering funds abroad and accumulating wealth beyond known sources in their own and their family members’ names. The petition cited credible information that the accused might flee the country, prompting the court to impose the travel restrictions to ensure a fair investigation. ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam confirmed the order.
