US to work with interim govt for regional peace, security

Diplomatic Correspondent :

The United States is looking forward to working with the Interim Government headed by its Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus to advance regional peace and security.

US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison M Hooker shared the information on X after holding a meeting with Bangladeshi National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman in Washington.

Both sides discussed key US policy priorities and explored avenues for deepening bilateral relations between the two countries through engagement in multifaceted arenas.

“I had a great meeting with Bangladeshi National Security Adviser Rahman to discuss US policy priorities and advance US-Bangladesh ties,” said Hooker following the talks. “I look forward to continuing to work with the Interim Government to advance regional peace and security.”
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on regional peace, security cooperation, and shared strategic interests.

Hooker expressed the United States’ continued commitment to working closely with the Interim Government of Bangladesh in fostering stability and prosperity across South Asia.

The meeting underscores the growing importance of Bangladesh as a key US partner in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly in light of shifting geopolitical dynamics and emerging security challenges.

Diplomatic observers see this engagement as a reaffirmation of Washington’s strategic interest in supporting democratic governance, regional cooperation, and development in Bangladesh.

Further talks and cooperation initiatives are expected in the coming months as both nations seek to strengthen their partnership on shared global and regional challenges.

The Bangladesh-US cooperation is augmenting in various fields including military partnership through a series of high-profile joint exercises and security programems aimed at enhancing regional security and bilateral defense cooperation.

The recently concluded joint military efforts will not only deepen the strategic ties between the two countries but also contribute to a safer Indo-Pacific region.

“These efforts help to make the United States and Bangladesh stronger, and the region safer,” a recent statement issued by the US Embassy Dhaka.

One of the key exercises was “Tiger Lightning,” now in its fourth consecutive year, which will bring together the Bangladesh Army and US Army Pacific in realistic training designed to boost capabilities in counterterrorism, peacekeeping, jungle operations, medical evacuation, and countering improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Another major exercise, “Tiger Shark 2025,” part of the ongoing Flash Bengal series since 2009, will focus on joint training for special operations forces.

This includes patrol boat handling, small arms marksmanship, and the use of US military equipment, helping to strengthen the operational capacity of Bangladesh’s Special Warfare Diving and Salvage unit and Para Commando Brigade in crisis response. A notable aspect of this operation is the joint use of U.S. military equipment.

The upcoming edition of “Pacific Angel” will further highlight the defense partnership between the two countries.

This joint exercise will emphasise the importance of the C-130 aircraft fleet in disaster response, airdrops, and air mobility operations, while also training personnel in search and rescue (SAR) and aeromedical missions. The goal is to enhance Bangladesh’s preparedness for humanitarian disaster scenarios.
