BADC hosts workshop on irrigation efficiency

Business Report :

Aiming to address region-specific disparities in irrigation efficiency, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) hosted a workshop on Monday titled “Assessment of the Present Irrigation Efficiency in Different Agro-Ecological Zones of Bangladesh” held at S?ch Bhaban’s Seminar Hall in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

The event was part of the ongoing PARTNER project and included participation from senior engineers, World Bank officials, and academic experts.

Ruhul Amin Khan, Chairman (Grade-1) of BADC, attended as Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he underlined BADC’s long-standing commitment to farmers and its pivotal role in advancing agricultural development. “BADC is an agriculturally and farmer-friendly institution,” he said, “and has a proud history of supporting farmers’ progress.”

He noted that while Bangladesh continues to expand its irrigated area, irrigation efficiency varies significantly across the country’s diverse agro-ecological zones. “This necessitates tailored planning and action based on region-specific efficiency assessments,” he added.

The workshop, part of the ongoing PARTNER initiative, reviewed current irrigation practices and efficiency metrics for each agro-ecological zone. Participants discussed observations, shared experiences, and offered recommendations for optimising water use.
